Mahidol University Delegation Visits Taiwan to Strengthen Collaboration in Medical Technology and Health Innovation

3–6 March 2026 A delegation from Mahidol University, led by Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, M.D, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, together with Assoc. Prof. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, M.D., Vice President for Information and Digital Transformation, and Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, led a delegation of executives from various faculties and units of Mahidol University on an official visit to Taiwan to explore and expand collaboration in medical technology, research, and health innovation with leading government agencies, research institutes, universities, and industry partners.

During the visit, the Mahidol University delegation held discussions with the leadership of Academia Sinica, led by Dr. James C. Liao, President, to explore collaborative initiatives including scholarship support, internship opportunities under the Taiwan International Internship Program (TIIP), faculty and staff capacity building in Quantum Computing, the organization of Research Symposia, support for Seed Grants, and academic staff exchange between the two institutions.

The delegation also visited Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), where they were welcomed by Dr. Yung-Hui, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center. The visit included presentations on Digital Health and Smart Hospital technologies, as well as discussions on potential collaborations in industry internship programs, multimodal medical data analytics research, and opportunities to organize study visits related to Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development initiative.

In addition, the delegation met with Dr. Chien-Chang Lee, Director of the Department of Information Management, Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), to discuss collaboration on developing a Data Lake for AI Federated Learning to support medical AI research, including chest X-ray image analysis, as well as the potential testing of HL7 FHIR Box devices within Mahidol University’s hospital systems.

The delegation further engaged with Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), led by Prof. Eric Y. Chuang, Vice President and General Director of Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories, to review the progress of ongoing collaboration between BDL and Mahidol University. Discussions also covered the organization of Joint Symposia, the provision of Seed Grants for research projects with potential to advance to TRL levels 4–5, collaboration in clinical trials, and the development of a Nan Sandbox initiative in nutraceuticals for commercialization in Taiwan.

Moreover, the Mahidol University delegation met with Mr. Carl Chen, Chief Technology Officer of Delta Corporation, to explore cooperation in master’s degree scholarship programs, industry internship opportunities in both Thailand and Taiwan, and the development of Skill Transcript frameworks in collaboration with industry partners.

The delegation also held discussions with the leadership of National Taiwan University (NTU), led by Prof. Shih-Torng Ding, Executive Vice President, on potential collaborations including automated laboratory training, student exchange programs at the NTU Cancer Center, and the development of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives in the sciences.
