Mahidol University Welcomes Executives from the Harvard–Yenching Institute, USA

On 9 January 2026, Associate Professor Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University, together with Professor Dr. Punchada Sirivunnabood, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Nuntiya Doungphummes, Director, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Associate Professor Chalermpol Chamchan, Ph.D., Director Institute for Population and Social Research, and Assistant Professor Apiwit Liang-itsara, Dean Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, warmly welcomed Prof. James Robson, Director of the Harvard–Yenching Institute, Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Harvard College Professor, Harvard University, and Prof. Michael Herzfeld, Ernest E. Monrad Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus, Department of Anthropology, Harvard University. The meeting was held at the Dr. Somsak Leesawatrakul Conference Room, Office of the President, Mahidol University.

On this occasion, executives from both institutions engaged in discussions to initiate a Visiting Scholars Program at the Harvard–Yenching Institute, aimed at selecting outstanding research works from Mahidol University’s faculties and institutes, including the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, the Institute for Population and Social Research, and the Faculty of Liberal Arts. The initiative seeks to foster academic networking and strengthen collaborative ties between the two institutions.
