Mahidol University and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan, Sign Academic Collaboration Agreement

On 14 July 2025, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., FRCP, President of Mahidol University, and Dr. Edwin Liu, President of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Republic of China (Taiwan), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The signing ceremony was honored by the presence of key executives, including Assoc. Prof. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, M.D., Vice President for Information Technology and Digital Transformation; Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thanapat Wanichanon, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University. Representing ITRI were Prof. Eric Y. Chuang, Vice President and General Director of the Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories, along with his delegation. The ceremony was held at the Dr. Somsak Leeswadtrakul Conference Room, 5th Floor, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, M.D., presented Mahidol University’s implementation of Smart Healthcare across its hospital network, highlighting the integration of digital technologies into healthcare services to improve efficiency and reduce system costs. ITRI also shared their Smart Healthcare initiatives as implemented in their affiliated hospitals in Taiwan.

This MoU aims to foster collaboration in AI innovation and healthcare, including the application of artificial intelligence in biomedical sciences, smart hospital systems, medical technology development, AI-assisted diagnostics, and patient monitoring devices. The partnership is expected to advance healthcare innovation regionally and support healthcare system development in both Thailand and the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the years to come.
