From 25th to 27th November 2025, Phase 2: Valuing Voices Tool for Equitable and Responsible Research Workshops was organised by Mahidol University’s Global Partnerships Division in collaboration with the University of York, UK, with support from the Wellcome Trust.
The three-day event involved researchers from different backgrounds. 25th November was dedicated to the Health Sciences, 26th November was focused on those from Science and Technology and the final session on 27th November was for those from Social Sciences and Humanities.
Across the three days, a total of nearly 80 participants took part in the workshop, which was held at The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.
The event began with welcome remarks by Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD,FRCP President, Mahidol University, followed by remarks by Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University.
Prof. Rob Marchant, the project lead of the Valuing Voices project from the University of York, also delivered a presentation to provide more background on the project.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Lucy Cheseldine and Dr. Karen Brooks from the University of York. In addition to sharing the five principles for equitable and responsible research, they also offered their expertise on how to use an online tool to develop research ideas and proposals, as well as insights on how the tool might apply to the international funding context.
This event aligns with the call for the proposals for the Mahidol University-University of York Seed Grant 2026, as the seed grant application form requires researchers to incorporate the principles for equitable and responsible research into their proposed project.
Workshops like these are testament to the strong collaboration between Mahidol University and the University of York. It also supports the development of world-class research outcomes that are equitable and responsible.
