Mahidol University, in Collaboration with Osaka University and University of Groningen, Organized the Osaka-Mahidol-Groningen Joint Symposium, themed “Social Creation through Diversity and Gender Equality”

On March 4, 2025, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, presided over the Osaka-Mahidol-Groningen Joint Symposium under the theme of Social Creation through Diversity and Gender Equality”, hosted by Mahidol University, in collaboration with Osaka University, Japan, and University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The seminar aimed to strongly promote gender diversity and equality in social innovation and cross-cultural with an emphasis on alignment with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on gender equality (Goal 5), as well as to create a sustainable, inclusive society that supports the equal development of all genders in society. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University, delivered welcoming remarks to all participants from Mahidol University and partner universities at the Prince Mahidol Hall Conference Center, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On this occasion, Dr. Rapee Boonplueang, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, as the moderator. There were interesting topics, such as How Did we get here? An exploration of shifting social and scientific understanding of sexuality and gender by Prof. Beverly Anne Yamamoto, Executive Vice President, Osaka University, Japan, Resilience through Inclusion: Redefining Gender and Sexuality in Society by Assoc. Prof. Thomas E. Guadamuz, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Beyond rejection: Building resilience for LGBTQIA+ youth across systems by Prof. Mónica López López, Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and The Struggles of Mothers and Children in Education: How Do Social Welfare Systems Shape Gender Relations? by Assoc. Prof. Ayumu Chinen, Human Sciences, Osaka University, Japan, as well as doctoral degree students from 3 partnership universities, had the opportunity to present their research and exchange knowledgewith guest speakers
