Mahidol University Signs Academic Cooperation MOU with the University of Leicester, United Kingdom

On July 22, 2025, Associate Professor Sittiwat Lertsiri, Ph.D. Vice President of Mahidol University, together with Professor Dr. Sansanee Chaiyaroj, Advisor to the President for Research, Associate Professor Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D. Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, and Associate Professor Dr. Viriya Taecharungroj, Director of the Institute for Technology and Innovation Management (iNT), welcomed executives and faculty members from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. The delegation was led by Professor Nishan Canagarajah, President and Vice-Chancellor, and included Professor Tom Robinson (Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Life Sciences and Dean of the Medical School), Professor Sarina Wakefield (Dean of International, College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities), Professor James Fitchett (Deputy Head of the College of Business), Paul Angrave (Director of Public Affairs), Anthony Braybrooke (Associate Head of International), Tien Tien (International Team), and Mr. Chawit Uttamachai (Science and Innovation Advisor, British Embassy). The meeting took place in Meeting Room 530AB, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On this occasion, Associate Professor Sittiwat Lertsiri, Ph.D., Vice President of Mahidol University, and Professor Nishan Canagarajah jointly signed an academic cooperation agreement covering collaboration in biosciences, research on diabetes, respiratory diseases, asthma, cancer, museum studies, and business. The MOU aims to enhance academic cooperation between the two institutions and promote international educational collaboration. The signing was witnessed by executives from both sides.

Mahidol University’s representatives participating in the discussions included Associate Professor Dr. Patreeya Kitcharoen (Associate Dean for International Relations, Corporate Communication, and Student Affairs, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities), Assistant Professor Dr. Sarawut Kraisame (Deputy Director for Education and Special Affairs, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia), Assistant Professor Dr. Patoo Cusripituck (Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia), and Associate Professor Dale Konstanz (Associate Dean for International Affairs, Mahidol University International College). Topics discussed included potential collaboration in the Master of Arts in Museum Studies program, the development of a double-degree curriculum via distance learning, non-degree programs, and faculty and student exchange.

In addition, Associate Professor Dr. Viriya Taecharungroj, Director of INT, highlighted Mahidol University’s vital role in bringing research to life through innovations discussed with Professor Nishan Canagarajah and his team regarding possible collaboration in Technology and Innovation Management, innovation development, research and innovation management, and commercialization strategies. The discussion took place on the 2nd floor of the Institute for Technology and Innovation Management, Salaya Campus.

Later, Professor Nishan Canagarajah and his delegation visited the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital to observe research work on child health, premature birth, and maternal diabetes. They were welcomed by Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and other executives and faculty members.
