Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, organized a field trip at the Graduate School of Medicine, Division of Health Sciences, Osaka University, Japan.

Assistant Professor Dr. Sirirat Leelacharas, an instructor from the Division of Adult and Gerontological Nursing and the instructor responsible for the Master of Nursing Science Program (International Program) at Ramathibodi School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, along with six graduate students from the course RANS 718 Practicum in Advanced Nursing II in the Master of Nursing Science Program (International Program), academic year 2023, participated in a field trip to the Graduate School of Medicine, Division of Health Sciences, Osaka University, Japan.

The trip included visits to various sites, including the Nursing Department at Osaka University Hospital, Osaka University Hospital, and Kishimoto Medical History Museum.

During the field trip, Dean Ishida Takayuki (PhD), Professor Kei Kamide (MD, PhD), and Professor Mai Kabayama (P.H.N., R.N., PhD) from the Division of Health Sciences, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, along with faculty members from Osaka University, warmly welcomed the participants. Additionally, Associate Professor Kenichi Yamamoto gave a special lecture on Pediatric Care, Genetics, and Rare Diseases in Japan.

The field trip allowed participants to study various departments in the university hospital, such as the respiratory system, the system for caring for patients with non-communicable diseases with complex problems, aeromedical evacuation, and the patient monitoring system in Japan, etc.

The purpose of this field trip was to raise students’ awareness of the importance of providing clinical experiences through diverse formats, to broaden their perspectives on advanced nursing practice, and to address complex clinical issues in nursing interventions. This will benefit learning exchanges related to nursing care for patients with non-communicable diseases and building nursing networks. It enabled students to analyze health issues, living conditions, and lifestyles of the population in Japan, as well as cultural differences. Thai students gained valuable firsthand experience from this field trip.
