Mahidol University, in Partnership with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Support from The Rockefeller Foundation, Co-organized a Workshop Event on “Advancing Climate Resilient Livelihoods in Thailand”

On 16th February 2024, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, co-organized a workshop event, titled Advancing Climate Resilient Livelihoods in Thailand. On this occasion, Lt. Sorawud Preededilok, Minister Attached to TICA, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, honorably presided over the event, and Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for International Relations and Corporate Communication, Mahidol University, delivered welcome remarks to all participants. The main purpose of this event was to enhance awareness on climate-resilient livelihoods in Thailand.

The event featured a diverse range of activities, consisted of some noticeable speeches delivered by distinguished guest speakers, included the Driving Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration for Climate Resilience by Ms. Deepali Khanna, Vice President – Asia, The Rockefeller Foundation, and the Thailand’s Trajectory Towards Net Zero: National Plans and Policies in Tackling Climate Change by Mrs. Chongrak Thinagul, Dissemination Technical Officer, Expert Level, Department of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment. Following the opening speech session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, joint in the panel discussion on the topic of Community and Climate Action – Multi-Stakeholder Engagement with executives and representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Public Health, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Thailand Environment Institute, as well as the Mae Fah Luang Foundation.

In addition, apart from the mentioned activities, the participants also attended a roundtable discussion which aimed to foster knowledge exchange during the brainstorming activity. In this session, the attendees were divided into 4 groups, included the Climate & Energy led by Dr. Triyuth Promsiri, Program Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, College of Management, Mahidol University, the Climate & Public Health led by Mr. Natdanai Subin, Lecturer, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, the Climate & Agriculture” led by Mr. Treesuvit Arriyavat, Communication and Engagement Specialist, ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), Mahidol University, and the Climate & Environment led by Ms. Saithan Chaipornkaew, Student, College of Management, Mahidol University. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nattavud Pimpa, Assistant Dean for Sustainability, College of Management, Mahidol University, was the lead moderator throughout the entire activities for this event.

Besides, Mr. Eric Arndt, Director, Asia Regional Office, The Rockefeller Foundation, Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Executive Director, ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), Mahidol University, along with executive team, faculty members, students and staff of Mahidol University, representatives from Thailand’s ministries, organizations in both private and public sectors, and groups of leaders from climate-vulnerable communities in Thailand, participated in this event at the Kamolthip Ballroom, the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok.

The International Relations Division of Mahidol University, in partnership with the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, co-organized the said event to bring up further collaboration among different sectors and stakeholders on the awareness of the impacts of climate change on livelihoods in Thailand. As well as the cooperation in advancing the concept of Climate Resilient Livelihoods, and coming together on searching the key opportunities to leverage to benefit vulnerable communities in Thailand.
