On October 6 – 8, 2024, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, President of Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Acting Vice President for Research, and Prof. Dr. Sansanee Chaiyaroj, Office of Research, Academic Affairs and Innovations, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, and Advisor to the President (Research), Mahidol University, participated in the Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum) 2024 – The 21st Annual Meeting, hosted by Keio University, Japan, and the University of California, USA. The opening plenary session was chaired by Prof. Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum), and Chairman of Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc., Japan, as well as delivered a special lecture on the topic of “The World in 2024 — What do we need from S&T.” On this occasion, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), along with senior leaders of higher education institutions, researchers, scientists, and representatives from government sector, industrial and technology sector, and international organizations worldwide, gathered in the mentioned meeting at Kyoto International Conference Center (ICC Kyoto), Japan.
Additionally, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, President of Mahidol University, also engaged in the University Presidents’ Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum) 2024 themed “Information Overload?: The Impact of Real-Time Technologies on Higher Education.” The session aimed to enhance the opinions exchange on current trends and situations regarding to the use of real-time data and computer-mediated communication for the benefit of education and research in higher education institutions, as well as to analyze the potential impacts of these technologies in enhancing educational equity, accelerating the fundamental research, and preventing the spread of disinformation.
Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum) was first convened in 2004, with the purpose to serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas regarding the role of science and technology in addressing global societal challenges and promoting sustainable development. The forum also aims to foster collaboration between scientists and various sectors globally to promote profound understanding of the impacts of science and technology, and collaboratively discuss strategies for addressing the challenges facing in the present world.
