From July 23 to 27, 2023, Instructor Juthamas Tiansaard, a Program Instructor, along with five third-year trainees from Board Certified Training Program in Adult and Gerontological Nursing, participated in a study visit at Union Hospital, Tongji Hospital, and School of Nursing Affiliated Tongji Medical College (TJMC), Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, People’s Republic of China.
On July 24, 2023, the faculty and the trainees visited Union Hospital. Professor Yilan LIU, Vice Dean, Director of the Nursing Department, and Professor GENG Li, Deputy Director of the Nursing Department of Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, HUST, gave a warm welcome, discussed, exchanged information about the hospitals, and gave souvenirs. After that, they visited the units, such as Endocrine unit, Respiratory care unit, Postoperative care unit, Medical intensive care unit, Postoperative cardiac surgery intensive care unit, and Postoperative neurosurgery intensive care unit. In the evening, they had dinner with Associate Professor LI Jie, the School of Nursing, and the nursing team of Union Hospital and Tongji Hospital.
On July 25, 2023, they visited Tongji Hospital. Professor ZENG Tieying, Deputy Director of the Nursing Department of Tongji Hospital, gave a warm welcome, discussed, exchanged information about the hospitals, and gave souvenirs. Later, they visited the museum, Endocrine unit, Cardiac care unit, and Medical intensive care unit. Moreover, they participated in ‘the case conference: septic shock’ to exchange experiences in using evidence-based care for patients with nurses in the intensive care unit.
On July 26, 2023, Ms. FANG Jialin, International Affairs Secretary, School of Nursing, led a visit to various significant sites at Tongji Medical College (TJMC), such as the Nursing School, Museum, and other faculties, including visited the main campus of Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) in Hongshan district, which covers a large area of more than 7,000 acres and more than 70% of greenery area. It is called ‘University in the Forest.’
The study visits were properly arranged to suit the expertise and interests of each trainee, which is very useful in exchanging experiences and knowledge, and in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
