Mahidol University Hosts SEAREG 2025 Summer Conference in Collaboration with Southeast Asia Research Group (SEAREG), Duke Center for International Development, and Henry Luce Foundation

From July 8–9, 2025, Professor Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, presided over the opening ceremony of the SEAREG 2025 Summer Conference. The opening address was followed by a welcome speech delivered by Prof. Edmund Malesky, Chair of the SEAREG Council.

Distinguished participants in attendance included:

  • Associate Professor Dr. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University
  • Professor Dr. Punchada Sirivunnabood, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University
  • Dr. Daniele Carminati, Mahidol University International College
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Vannaporn Phongpheng, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University

The conference was held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University.

The event featured keynote speeches and paper presentations by renowned international scholars and Ph.D. candidates from leading global institutions, including:

  • Mr. Attawat Assavanadda, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), Hong Kong SAR, China

  • Assistant Professor Limeng Ong, American University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia

  • Professor Danny Quah, Li Ka Shing Professor in Economics, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, Singapore

Additionally, Professor Dr. Punchada Sirivunnabood participated in a panel discussion on the topic of “The Development of Party Finance in Thailand, while Assistant Professor Dr. Vannaporn Phongphengs presentation topic was on“Bangkok as a ‘World Gastronomic City:’ The Representation of Street Food Culture for Sustainable Development.”

This conference represents a collaborative effort between Mahidol University and the Southeast Asia Research Group (SEAREG) under the Duke Center for International Development, and is supported by the Henry Luce Foundation.

The event was hosted by the Global Partnerships Division, Mahidol University, and was supported by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University International College, and the Faculty of Liberal Arts. It provided an important platform for faculty, students, and researchers from various countries to exchange knowledge and perspectives on topics related to Southeast Asia. The program encouraged in-depth discussions and critical analysis of pressing research questions impacting the region, while also promoting academic dissemination and fostering international research networks.
