On February 26, 2025, Mahidol University, led by Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Patsarin Rodpothong Wongkamhang, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Strategic Planning and Quality Development, Mahidol University International College, and the faculties of Mahidol University, paid a courtesy visit to Newcastle University in the United Kingdom to attend a meeting to discuss potential academic and research collaborations between the two universities. For the visit, the delegation was cordially welcomed by Prof. Nigel Harkness, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Whitehead, Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global, together with the team of executives, faculties, and staff of Newcastle University.

During the meeting, the collaboration encompassed academic and research partnerships between Mahidol University and Newcastle University, comprising of joint supervision programme, the exchange of visiting professors, the cooperation on mobility programmes for students and academic staff, the cooperation of joint degree programmes in Tropical Medicine, and clinical elective programmes, the establishment of an innovation center for AI Technology, and co-hosting of seminars and academic activities. In terms of research collaborations, the discussion also explored research initiatives in the fields of mutual interest, such as Population, Health Science, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
