Mahidol University welcomed representatives from The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and The Embassy of Sweden in Thailand on The occasion of a courtesy visit to discuss potential collaboration in research and education related to human rights and peace.

On June 25, 2025, Professor Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP President of Mahidol University, together with Associate Professor Sittiwat Lertsiri, Vice President of Mahidol University and Acting Director of the Institute for Human Rights and Peace Studies, Associate Professor Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti,Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council,Mahidol University and Dr. Watcharathai Boonthinan, Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, Executive Director of The Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/SEA Programme (SHAPE-SEA), welcomed: Ms. Anna Maria Oltorp, Counsellor and Head of the Development Cooperation Section, Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok and Ms. Thi Le Thanh Nguyen Forsberg, First Secretary and Senior Advisor-Research, Human Rights, Democracy & Rule of Law, Development Cooperation Section, Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok. The meeting took place at the VIP Reception Room, 5th Floor, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

On this occasion, the parties discussed the implementation of Phase 2 of the “Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia Programme”, which is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok. The program aims to promote research and education on human rights and peace in the Southeast Asian region. In addition, discussions were held on expanding the collaboration at the university level to include future areas of cooperation related to climate change and migration.
