On December 3, 2024, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President, Mahidol University, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Valuing Voices for Equitable and Responsible Research Workshop.” In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Ph.D., Vice President for Research, Mahidol University, along with Prof. Matthias Ruth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, University of York, the United Kingdom, altogether delivered welcoming remarks to the participants from Mahidol University and Kasetsart University, with a total of 100 attendees, at the Phayathai Grand Ballroom, Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, Bangkok.
The event featured a panel discussion titled “Global North and Global South Sharing,” which was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University. The panelists consisted of Prof. Rob Marchant, Professor of Tropical Ecology and VV Project Leader, University of York, the United Kingdom, along with Distinguished Prof. Alaina Ammit, Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Science, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, Assoc. Prof. Ana Paula Lima, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trakarn Prapaspongsa, Director of Doctor of Philosophy Program in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering (International Program), Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, and Dr. Susan Jim, Perivoli Africa Research Centre Manager, University of Bristol, the United Kingdom. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Ph.D., Vice President, Mahidol University, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guest speakers and engaged in discussions on expanding potential future collaborations.
The Valuing Voices for Equitable and Responsible Research Workshop was organised with the cooperation between the Global Partnerships Division of Mahidol University and University of York, the United Kingdom, during December 3 – 4, 2024, with the support of The Wellcome Trust. The workshop proposed to raise awareness of inequities and responsibilities within research environments. The event also encouraged faculty members and researchers to develop goals and practices that contribute equity and responsible research projects.
