Global Health Course between Health and Global Policy Institute- Japan and the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University

10th February. The Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University and Health and Global Policy Institute-Japan (HGPI) started an online collaboration project on 10th of February, 2021. The project runs from February 2021 to September 2022. Ms. Eri Yoshimura, Senior Manager, HGPI welcomed the participants briefly and let the floor for CEO of HGPI, Mr. Ryoji Noritake who gave an encouraging keynote to the participants regarding global health. Following CEO, Associate Professor Dr. Chanuantong Tanasugarn, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University shared her experience and showed new opportunities for the participants despite living under the situation of COVID-19.

On the first lecture session, Dr. Tanarak Plipat, Deputy Director of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), Thailand presented a virtual lecture on COVID-19 situation of Thailand. Dr Tanarak presented the history of Thailand Health System, a timeline of COVID-19 situation, success in dealing with COVID-19 and updated the new cases seen in Thailand. Following the lecture, participants enthusiastically had a lively discussion with the resource person. The lecture duration was scheduled for 2 hours. The online workshop has 25 participants. The session was facilitated by Mr. Joji Sugawara, HGPI.

The project has four phases; Online workshops and lecture (February to September 2021), Fieldwork (October & November 2021) in Thailand and Japan, Research Phase (December 2021 to April 2022) and Advocacy work (May to September 2022). The first phase of the project will run for 8 months. It will have an online lecture on 2nd week of every month and group work on 4th week of every month.

The project is funded by the Toyota Foundations, Japan. It is coordinated by collaboration between the International Relations Unit, the Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University and HGPI-Japan.
