Assoc. Prof. Dr. Taweetham Limpanuparb, Program Director of Chemistry at Mahidol University International College’s (MUIC) Science Division, received the 2020 Young Scientist Award on August 17, 2020 in a ceremony held at Vibhavadee Ballroom, Centara Grand, Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok.
Prof. Dr. Anek Laothamatas, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, officially handed the award which is given by the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of H.M. the King.
Dr. Taweetham was recognized for his achievements on three key areas, namely, Computational & Theoretical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry & Chemical Physics, and Science Education & Science Communication.
He has published 29 articles at the international level, recognized by international journals or publishers including the Royal Society Open Science (RSOS), Journal of Chemical Education (JCE), Journal of Computational Chemistry (JCC), ScienceDirect, and Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (PCCP).
A consistent winner in science competitions in Thailand and abroad during his high school years, Dr. Limpanuparb graduated from Mahidol University’s Faculty of Science with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree and obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the Australian National University (ANU). He completed his postdoctoral study at the Division of Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and at the School of Computer Science at ANU.
He started as a lecturer in MUIC in 2012 teaching undergraduate general chemistry and basic chemistry laboratory courses for science-related majors and mathematics courses for non-science majors. He was promoted to Assistant Professor of Chemistry in 2015 and Associate Professor of Theoretical Chemistry in 2018. He also served as Assistant Dean for Information Technology in 2014-2018.
