Mahidol University signs MOU with TCELS for the project “Mahidol-Amata Medi-town” and to establish Thailand Life Sciences Cluster, in the opening ceremony of Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL 2020 & Bio Asia Pacific 2020

On 28th October 2020, Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University, and Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for International Relations and Corporate Communication, attended the opening ceremony of Thailand LAB INTERNATIONAL 2020 & Bio Asia Pacific 2020. Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, M.D., Ph.D., Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, presided over the ceremony and gave the opening speech. On this occasion, Emeritus Prof. Dr. Pornchai Matangkasombut, M.D., Advisor of the Board of Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS), senior experts, and delegations from many organizations were present in the Bio Square, EH 103 Hall, Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre BITEC Bangna.

There was then the MOU signing ceremony for the project “Mahidol-Amata Medi-town” the collaboration of Mahidol University, Amata Corporation Public Company Limited, and Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS). Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University, Mr. Vikrom Kromadit, Chairman of Amata Corporation Public Company Limited, and Mr. Chairat Sangchan, acting CEO of TCELS, as the representatives of the three partners signed the MOU to establish the first world class international medical city in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) at Amata City, Chonburi province.

This project aims to provide world class international medical services and to collaborate in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and research, with a focus on international cooperation to become a World Class Medical Hub. Investors in the medical, pharmaceutical, cell therapy, biological science, and medical equipment will be invited to invest in Amata City. The partners will consult with international advisors to develop an integrated medical ecosystem. They will also form a committee to promote work in biological science and connect public and private sectors in Chonburi and neighboring areas to complete the medical ecosystem.

On this occasion, there was an announcement of the cooperative establishment of Thailand Life Sciences Cluster (TLSC) with 26 partners. The objective of this community is to follow the national strategy to make a cluster that combines people who are involved in the Live Sciences industry and to support the Thai Life Sciences industry. Mahidol University, National Laboratory Animal Center, Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research all joined in this cluster.
