Mahidol University has worked its way through the 1st university in Thailand, ranked by Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. The announcement, made in January 2018, says the university is recognized as no.40 in Asia, and no.548 globally (see: http://www.webometrics.info/en/Asia/Thailand).

Developed from Cybermetrics (known as Internet Lab), Webometrics Ranking of World Universities belongs to a research group under the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). The council itself is the largest public research organization in Spain. Since 2004, there is a semi-annual announcement made in January and July on the website www.webometrics.info to legitimize academic articles, submitted through the internet. This is to measure the capability of becoming an E-university. The indicators (from Webometrics) are as follows.

1. VISIBILITY (50%) – enforcing the maximum value of “Majestic SEO” and “Ahrefs”, as well as some service providers that evaluate the number of the external networks (subnets) originating backlinks to the institutions webpages.

2. PRESENCE (5%) – implementing Google Analytics to assist with the analysis of size (which is a number of pages) of the web domain of an institution. This also includes all the subdomains shared with major web domain and all the file types, such as a PDF document.

3. TRANSPARENCY or OPENNESS (10%) – estimating the citations in a quantitative aspect from the top contributors, in accordance with the following source: Transparent Ranking [http://www.webometrics.info/en/node/169])

4. EXCELLENCE or SCHOLAR (35%) evaluating the number of papers among the top 10% that are most cited in 26 disciplines during a five-year period (2011-2015).

The ranking reflects the consistently laborious development in all sections from Mahidol University website that holistically consider both the website format and content. Mahidol University is determined to gain a reputation for Information Technology, and to be acknowledged as a fundamental requirement amongst other perspectives of the university sustainable development plan.
