On 6th December 2017, Assoc. Prof. Pratap Singhasivanon, Ph.D., Dean of Faculty of Tropical Medicine, presided over the Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2017 under the theme “Tropical Medicine 4.0 Effective Collaboration for an Impact on Global Health”. The event was hosted by Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, in collaboration with SEAMEO TROPMED Network, Parasitology and Tropical Medicine Association of Thailand, Tropical Medicine Alumni Association, Mahidol – Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (Public Organization), Ministry of Science and Technology, and Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, between 6 – 8 December 2017 at Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok.
Assoc. Prof. Pratap Singhasivanon, Ph.D., Dean of Faculty of Tropical Medicine, delivered a speech on the background of the event. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Tanarak Plipat, Deputy Director of Department of Disease Control, and Prof. Nicholas Day, Director of Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit. This was followed by the welcome speech from Assoc. Prof. Soranit Siltharm, Ph.D., Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Joint International Tropical Medicine Meeting 2017 was held for the 21st consecutive year, providing a platform for knowledge exchange of Tropical Medicine, Global Health and Infectious Diseases researches, a networking and relationship-building occasion for participants to learn more about the latest developments. Over 800 participants from 36 countries across the world joined the meeting with 140 oral presentations and 120 poster presentations from professors, researchers, scientists, and students both national and international institution.
Participants will gather new methods and developments for Tropical Medicine, Global Health and Infectious Diseases for their researches to public in international journals and knowledge exchange between professional across the regions to tie up Thailand with international relations.
After the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Pratap Singhasivanon, Ph.D., Dean of Faculty of Tropical Medicine, had a press conference on “Infectious Tropical Diseases” especially malaria which spread in the tropical and warm climate areas in the world, impact to increase 3,000 – 4,000 patients for the next 10 years and new emerging diseases to holistic protection of infectious diseases from animals to humans, environmental changes which affect spread of the diseases, the meetings aim to diversify knowledge exchange, set plan for public health, innovations from researchers and scientists to develop researches for benefits of Thailand and international society. In 2020, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, will host the biggest international conference on Tropical Medicine with more than 2,000 participants from around the world, a lot of press was participated in the press conference at VIP Room, 8th Floor, Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok
