On March 12, 2025, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, President of Mahidol University, along with Prof. Béla Merkely, MD, MSc, Ph.D., DSc, multi-HC, FESC, FACC, Rector of Semmelweis University, Republic of Hungary signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the Ph.D. in Medical fields between Mahidol University and Semmelweis University. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, Ph.D., Vice President for Global Partnerships and University Council, Mahidol University, together with H.E. Dr. Sándor Sipos, Ambassador of Hungary to Thailand Mr. Gergő Varga, Consul, the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok, along with Mr. Gyula Bordis, Advisor to the Rector, Semmelweis University, Republic of Hungary Ms. Tünde Czétényi, Foreign Affairs Executive to Rector, Semmelweis University, Republic of Hungary, and Ms. Dóra Szepesi, Director General of Marketing and Communications, Semmelweis University, Republic of Hungary came to witness the signing ceremony at 530 A–B Meeting Room, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya.
On this occasion, Mahidol University and Semmelweis University also discussed exploring further expanding collaboration opportunities in developing the Ph.D. in Medicine, the Cotutelle and Joint Supervision Program, and the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). In addition, the executives of Semmelweis University screened the “Semmelweis” movie which is about the autobiography of Ignaz Semmelweise, a Hungarian physician, for students of Mahidol University at Mini Theater, Mahidol Learning Center (MLC)
